About AVAG
AVAG Betriebs AG in Thun is a recycling company. The material AVAG receives is usually already separated from other waste. These include metal, electronic equipment, paper and glass. AVAG processes these materials into raw materials, some of which are sold to customers.
Intended results
In waste disposal, recycled materials are billed by weight. Therefore, AVAG is required by law to equip its forklifts with a Legal for Trade weighing system. By using attachments with clamps and rotators, it also had to be possible to weigh and transport bulky goods. In addition, they were looking for a simple and absolutely safe solution for the forklift driver. With RAVAS' calibrated iCP weighing fork board, all these requirements can be met.
Investment in hardware and software
To achieve the intended results, AVAG has invested in a calibrated (Legal for Trade) weighing fork board. This weighs in conjunction with a rotary clamp.
Results
Until recently, AVAG Betriebs AG used a fixed floor scale. When comparing the costs between weighing on a fixed scale and weighing on a forklift, they discovered a time savings of three minutes per weighing per pallet compared to the old situation. Company manager Willi: "That amounts to a savings of 30 weeks times 45 hours, per year. That's 1350 hours, or 27,000 pallets per year. With 300 working days, that comes down to ± 90 weighings per day. Our investment was already recouped within 18 months!" Another positive effect: the work of the forklift driver has become more attractive. He no longer has to drive back and forth to the scale.

"We were faced with the great challenge of finding suitable weighing systems for our rotary forklifts. We wanted a Legal for Trade system that would also provide useful data when turning and clamping goods, and we wanted to be able to enter this data into our WMS and ERP system".
About the application
Control of waste streams
Every production process generates residual material and waste streams. These material streams are either reused elsewhere in the production process or recycled or destroyed by third parties. This processing is often expensive, so efforts are made everywhere to limit production of waste. Knowing where waste is produced and how much is the first step to controlling and minimizing waste streams. With a mobile weighing system on the pallet truck or forklift, you can weigh waste anywhere in the production process during transport, making it clear where optimization can be made.

"AVAG is now so convinced of the reliability and efficiency of this solution that they have already equipped two forklifts with a RAVAS Legal for Trade weighing system. "Our forklift trucks are not only equipped with a Legal for Trade weighing system, but they are also extremely stable," says a production manager enthusiastically".
