How PreZero saves time and prevents errors with mobile weighing
PreZero is a leading player in the waste and raw materials industry. Every day, they use mobile weighing systems to weigh hazardous waste collected from customers on-site, all in accordance with OIML guidelines. Read more about their experiences.
Let us introduce you to...
PreZero
The Ankerkade in Maastricht is home to an important location of PreZero, a leading player in the waste and raw materials industry. This site serves as a collection and transfer point for hazardous waste from various sources, such as small and medium-sized businesses, municipal waste collection sites, and industrial customers.
Every day, around 15 vehicles operate from this location to collect hazardous waste and transport it to processing facilities in the Netherlands and abroad. These operations require a high degree of precision and safety, given the nature of the substances being handled.
PreZero strives for a circular economy in which waste is not the end point, but the beginning of something new. By efficiently managing and processing waste streams, the company contributes to the conservation of raw materials and the reduction of environmental impact.

RAVAS & PreZero
The use of mobile weighing systems
The collaboration between PreZero and RAVAS goes back more than two decades. In 2001, the first mobile weighing system was put into use at the Maastricht site. Since then, the number of systems has grown considerably: PreZero now works with fifteen weighing systems on electric pallet trucks, two mobile scales, one forklift truck with iForks, and one hand pallet truck.
These systems are used daily in waste collection. “We mainly use them to weigh the hazardous waste collected at customer sites,” says the team in Maastricht. The weighing systems are used in all parts of the process - including collection, (internal) transport, transfer, and processing - and are therefore an indispensable link in PreZero's service provision.
The choice of mobile weighing systems is practical and customer-oriented. Customers gain immediate insight into the weight of their waste, as weighing takes place on site and in their presence. This saves time, prevents errors, and increases the transparency of the process.

Annual calibration
Suitable for commercial purposes
Because the weighing systems at PreZero are used for commercial purposes, they are all calibrated annually. This calibration ensures that weight recordings remain reliable and compliant with legal standards, which is important when customers are billed based on weight. The International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML) sets uniform guidelines worldwide to ensure that all weighing systems meet the same standards and are therefore Legal for Trade.
Weighing often takes place directly at the customer's premises. “The fact that weighing takes place in the presence of the customer makes it particularly important that we can rely on the accuracy of the systems,” says the PreZero team.

Maurice Pisters, Head of Planning at PreZero
“Annual maintenance and calibration always take place on Saturdays. That's ideal for us, because the systems are in constant use during the week. This way, everything keeps running without us having to adjust our schedule.”
Flexibility first
Maintenance without downtime
At a location such as PreZero Maastricht, where multiple vehicles are on the road every day and weighing systems are used intensively, downtime is not an option. That is precisely why flexibility in service is essential. To prevent systems from being out of service during busy working days, annual maintenance, including mandatory calibration, is planned in consultation with the customer and carried out on a Saturday.
This ensures that the systems remain fully available when they are needed most and that daily processes are not disrupted by necessary maintenance. It is a practical solution that ensures that efficiency and continuity remain paramount.
