The problem
Overloading of trucks
NedTrain, active for more than 150 years, specializes in the maintenance, service, cleaning and overhaul of rolling stock. The NS is their largest client, for which NedTrain overhauls components such as bogies, wheel sets and diesel engines, among other things. They also modernize train interiors and install safety systems in NS trains. NedTrain operates from about thirty locations throughout the Netherlands.
At the Tilburg location, defective train parts are overhauled and stored. New parts are also in stock here. Every day, trucks pick up ordered parts for customers. Previously, these parts were loaded based on estimates. Given the wide variation in orders - from small rings to exchange parts - this often led to inaccuracies and even overloading of trucks. The result? High fines.
Patrick Marijnissen, Warehouse employee at NedTrain
“I am extremely happy with the RCS PLUS systems. Previously, we had to estimate the weights of the loads, which was often inaccurate and carried a lot of risk. Now this is no longer necessary. In addition, it is very easy to work with this system.”
The solution
The RAVAS RSC-PLUS
To solve the problem of overloading, NedTrain decided to purchase three RCS PLUS systems, one for each STILL truck used in their logistics processes. These innovative systems ensure that each part is accurately weighed before being loaded into the truck. This not only prevents overloading, but also ensures that the weights of boxes and packages are correctly recorded on the bill of lading, which is an important step in optimizing their transportation processes.
NedTrain chose the RCS PLUS system because of the reliable and accurate weighing capabilities it offers. This hydraulic weighing system is specially designed for check weighing and offers a maximum deviation of only 0.2% of the total weighing capacity. On a forklift with a capacity of 2,500 kilograms, this means that weight indication occurs in increments of two kilograms, with a tolerance of +5 kilograms. This accuracy is essential for NedTrain, as they work with a wide range of train components, ranging from small components to large and heavy parts such as wheel sets and switch parts.
More benefits
Efficiency and cost savings
Thanks to the new weighing system, overloading is a thing of the past. The forklift trucks are now equipped with an integrated weighing function, giving drivers immediate insight into the exact weight of their load. This not only increases safety on the road, but also ensures that NedTrain meets the legal requirements for transportation.
In addition, this technological solution has contributed to a more efficient logistics process. The use of the RCS PLUS system saves time by eliminating the need for manual weighing and prevents unnecessary delays caused by incorrect weight estimations. This allows trucks to be loaded more efficiently, leading to faster delivery times and improved service to NedTrain's customers.
Preventing overloading also reduces unnecessary wear and tear on trucks and enables more economical use of fuel. This fits within NedTrain's broader vision of not only providing high-quality service, but also operating in an environmentally conscious and future-oriented manner.
